During the application cycle, students may apply directly for the following scholarships:

Alumni Merit-Based Student Alumni Association (SAA) Scholarship
1 Recipient of $1,000 Scholarship
The Alumni Merit-Based SAA Scholarship recognizes a Student Alumni Association member who demonstrates outstanding leadership in the Student Alumni Association and within the larger university community.
Criteria: Freshman, Sophomore or Junior, minimum 2.5 GPA, Active SAA Member

David R. Nunez ’03 Scholarship for Community Service and Leadership
1 Recipient of $1,000 for 2 consecutive years
The David R. Nunez ’03 Scholarship for Community Service and Leadership was created in honor of the late David R. Nunez, an outstanding student leader at UMass Amherst. David served as Student Government President, worked in Residential Life and was a member of ALANA Affairs.  David’s greatest passion was equal access to higher education and keeping UMass Amherst affordable. Recipients demonstrate a strong commitment to community service and student leadership.
Criteria: Freshman, Sophomore or Junior, minimum 2.5 GPA

Leaders in the Making Scholarship
2 Recipients of $2,000 Scholarships
The Leaders in the Making Scholarship was established to support students that have diverse records of achievement in academics, volunteerism and leadership and are student role models.
Criteria: Sophomore or Junior, minimum 3.0 GPA

Life Members Internship Award
3 Recipients of $2,000 Scholarships
The Life Member Internship Scholarship was created to help defray the costs an summer, unpaid internship for undergraduate students.
Criteria: Freshman, Sophomore or Junior, minimum 3.0 GPA 

Robert B. Collins ’19 Student Alumni Association (SAA) Scholarship
1 Recipient of $1,000 Scholarship
The Robert B. Collins ’19 SAA Scholarship was established through a bequest to provide scholarship assistance to active members of the Student Alumni Association who also have strong academic records.
Criteria: Freshman, Sophomore or Junior, minimum 2.5 GPA, Active SAA Member

UMass Amherst Life Sciences Alumni Network Scholarship
1 Recipient of $1,000 Scholarship
The UMass Amherst Life Sciences Alumni Network Scholarship was established to assist with the education pursuits of students who are interested in pursuing careers in a life sciences industry.
Criteria: Sophomore, minimum 3.5 GPA


Candidates for the following scholarships are nominated by Deans and the Office of Financial Aid.

21st Century Leaders Award
10 Recipients of $1,000 Awards
The 21st Century Leaders Award recognizes graduating seniors who are academically accomplished and who have contributed to the university by exceptional achievement or have enhanced the reputation of the flagship campus. The recipients are nominated by faculty for strong leadership qualities; noteworthy original research; community service; the achievement of success by overcoming extraordinary personal circumstances, or public presentation through art, performance or athletic ability. The recipients are selected by a committee and the awards are presented during the Undergraduate Commencement celebrations each May.
Criteria:  Graduating Senior, Nominated by UMass Amherst faculty or staff

The Bella Scholarship
1 Recipient of $2,000 Scholarship
The Bella Scholarship was established by an Alumni Association board member in honor of his daughter.  It is intended to provide financial support for UMass Amherst undergraduates of select majors who are residents of Merrimack Valley.
Criteria: Freshman, Sophomore or Junior, minimum 3.2 GPA, Resident of Lawrence, Lowell, Haverhill, Methuen, Andover, or North Andover

Mary Killeen Bennett ’93 EdD Book Fund
2 Recipients of $500 Awards
The Mary Killeen Bennett ’93 EdD Book Fund was established by the UMass Amherst Alumni Association in memory of the late Mary Killeen Bennett, a passionate advocate for UMass Amherst and leader in the Pioneer Valley. The fund provides financial support for graduates of public high schools in the Pioneer Valley who are in their first year at UMass Amherst and unable to meet the anticipated cost of textbooks.  The recipients are selected by the Office of Financial Aid.
Criteria:  Freshmen, Graduate of a Public High School in the Pioneer Valley, minimum 3.0 GPA

Michael W. Morris '63 Scholarship
1 Recipient of $2,000 Scholarship
The Michael W. Morris Scholarship helps make the dream of a UMass Amherst education a reality to worthy students from Lowell or Lawrence, MA. The scholarship is named in honor of Lawrence native and longtime UMass Amherst champion, Michael W. Morris ’63, who served as president of the Alumni Association and remains a vital and active alumni ambassador.
Criteria: Freshman, Sophomore or Junior, minimum 2.5 GPA, Lawrence or Lowell Area Resident

Senior Leadership Award
11 Recipients of $500 Awards
The Senior Leadership Award recognizes graduating seniors who have demonstrated outstanding leadership and service to the UMass Amherst community.  Award recipients have distinguished themselves through important contributions to student organizations and campus jobs, through academic excellence, and through public and community service. The recipients are selected by the Deans of the schools and colleges.
Criteria:  Senior, minimum 3.0 GPA

UMass Amherst Cape Cod Alumni Network Scholarship
8 Recipients of $2,000 Scholarships; 1 recipient of $4,000 Engineering Scholarship
The UMass Amherst Cape Cod Alumni Network Scholarship was established by the Cape Cod Alumni Network to assist with the educational pursuits of students from Cape Cod high schools.  High school senrios with a minimum of 3.3 grade point average and entering UMass Amherst in the fall are eligible to apply in January through the Cape Cod High School Guidance Office.
Criteria: incoming UMass Amherst first-year student, minimum 3.3 GPA, Cape Cod Resident

UMass Amherst Greater Boston Alumni Network Scholarship
1 Recipient of $2,000 Scholarship
The UMass Amherst Greater Boston Alumni Network Scholarship was established by the Greater Boston Alumni Network to assist with the educational pursuits of students from Boston high school.  Recipients will demonstrate diverse records of achievement in academics, leadership and are student role models.
Criteria: Sophomore or Junior, minimum 3.0 GPA, City of Boston Resident, first generation college student

William F. Field Alumni Scholars Award
56 Recipients of $750 Scholarships
The William F. Field Alumni Scholars Program was established in 1976 to recognize and honor third-year students for their academic achievements at UMass Amherst.  The program was named in honor of William F. Field, the university’s first Dean of Students, for his outstanding support of academic excellence and his personal commitment to bringing out the best in every student. The recipients are selected by the Deans of the schools and colleges.
Criteria: Junior with a minimum of 60 graded hours in residence at UMass Amherst, minimum 3.5 GPA
